Utalising the same dark, atmospheric style of photography that we employed for the jackets of the bestselling Inspector Rebus novels we set about capturing the dark underbelly of Edinburgh and the surrounding haunts frequented by Inspector Rebus. In Rebus’s Scotland, Ian Rankin offers exclusive insights into the world of his books. Rankin has repeatedly said that Edinburgh is as much a character in his books as Rebus; both are brought to life by these words and pictures. Ian Rankin considers himself as a writer ‘probing the contemporary Scottish psyche’ these photographs are about the unexpected sights in Edinburgh and Scotland; no tartan and heather here. Rebus's Scotland remained in the best sellers list for over ten weeks.
Each limited edition Rebus fine art print is supplied signed by both photographers with a certificate of provenance to validate it’s authenticity and confirm the print title and edition number, the print and the certificate are both embossed with the photographer's seal. Rebus prints are produced to the highest standards using archival quality photographic materials and come supplied in an archival mount. A variety of sizes are available for each photographic print, the edition is strictly limited to 30.

IAN RANKIN SPEAKS ABOUT THE PHOTOGRAPHERS AND THE IMAGES IN 'REBUS'S SCOTLAND'
‘The photographs in Rebus’s Scotland were taken by Ross Gillespie and Tricia Malley. I first encountered their work when I was asked to submit short story to Edit, the in-house magazine of the University of Edinburgh...The photograph used to illustrate it excited me immediately...I liked it so much I sent it to my publishers in London...It was to prove the beginning of a fruitful relationship.' - Ian Rankin, author of the Rebus novels.
CUSTOMER FEEDBACK
'I Have just received my order from the Rebus Photos Fine Art collection and the whole process from start to finish was smooth and simple with great communication from the company throughout. The photos represent moments in time which most people could identify with. I may have to add another to my collection in the future. You won't be disappointed dealing with this company' - Sandy and Linda
'Very happy to say the photos themselves were so good making our choice was the hardest thing. The quality of the prints and mounts were absolutely excellent. Put this together with the prompt way in which the order was dealt with and the swift delivery, I must say the whole experience was brilliant' - John
'Ordered one of the photos for my husband's Christmas present but it's such a beautiful thing I'm not sure I'll be able to wait that long to give it to him!' ‘Love it!!’ - Ruthanne
‘Having seen the print of ‘Meadows in the Snow’ hanging on the wall of the Oxford Bar I was struck by its beauty and I need a copy at home. On contacting the folks at Rebus Photos they couldn’t have been more helpful in my dealings with them. Communication was clear and speedy, in addition some custom requests I had were dealt with very quickly. I would have no hesitation in recommending Rebus Photos for their professionalism and great customer service and of course their art.’ - Nick
'A new arrival! While we are only the adoptive parents, we heartily commend the efforts and results of the artists Ross Gillespie and Tricia Malley.
The print exceeds our expectations. The quality of the print exposed the mood, subtlety of shading and sparks of light that are not possible to be seen from the representation in the book or at the Oxford Bar.
We hope we will have opportunities to select from your gallery again. Even better would be visit with you on our next visit to Edinburgh!' - David & Pamela
‘I just received my photo, and I am very happy with it. Thank you for the great service.’ - Casper
‘The first book by Ian Rankin I read was the St. Leonard's Years Omnibus, and since then I have found your photographs to be an important part of the Rankin/Rebus universe, adding quite a lot to the setting and feel of the books. That was 17 years ago. From the beginning, I really wanted some of the photographs, being a collector. So I guess I found out that they were actually available for sale some years ago via Ian Rankin's newsletter. And now, the timing was right between fandom and income that I could actually afford one. In short: Great work, hoping to see more of it!’ - Deborah
‘My wife and I have previously purchased two images from you and now we have moved and have extra space we would love to purchase the image of Fleshmarket Close. Do you still have one remaining? I look forward to hearing from you.’ - Neal
'I am very familiar with "Rebus's Scotland - a Personal Journey" as it was purchased as a gift at Christmas for my wife. It served as the catalyst for our subsequent trip. Our stay was most memorable. We plan to return and extend our explorations of Scotland. Till then, your art will serve as our reminder of our first visit (and the works of Ian Rankin).' - Colin

BOOK REVIEWS
'Tricia Malley and Ross Gillespie have provided a visual language to complement the dark and complex thoughts of Scotland's most famous sleuth. Their photographs, featured on the covers of Ian Rankin’s books for many years, have played an enormous role in reinforcing the atmosphere and identity of the Rebus novels. In “Rebus’s Scotland” they had an unusual challenge: They had to take photos for a biography of a fictional character. They have succeeded beautifully with pictures that are a visual reflection of the narrative: moody, monochrome, atmospheric portraits of a country, it's cities and it's people.’ - Glasgow Herald
‘The autobiographical narrative of real Rankin is punctuated by the observations of unreal Rebus and are interwoven with acute and often wry tangential digressions on the nature of Scottishness. The formula works. Rebus 's myriad fans will be fascinated by the relationship between their hero and Rankin and general readers will find much to ponder over in Rankin's speculations about his own times and nation. The evocative photographs are a brilliant complement to the text.’ - Daily Mail
‘Some beautifully atmospheric images. A superb companion to the Rebus novels. It offers context, autobiographical background from the writer, and some beautifully atmospheric images. A must for any diehard Rebus fan. As I am.’ - Out There
'The book is hauntingly illustrated by the photographers who took the stark black and white pictures that illustrate Rankin's books, pictures of convenience stores, abandoned shipyards, tenements and tower blocks, the less picturesque but no less real unseen Scotland a world away from shortbread tins.’ - Jo Bennie, Vine Voice
‘It was amazing, I read this book on the train going to Scotland to meet Ian Rankin himself (after winning a competition) and it really made my trip!! I was able to finally visualise all of the places that I had read so much about and walk in the footsteps of Rebus!’ - Beth
Stunning black-and-white photography...a non-fiction work of intelligent analysis.’ - Elizabeth Buie, Glasgow Herald
‘Fascinating, as much for the revealing insight into the genesis of his characters, and an excellent collection of photographs...as for his personal views of Scotland and its people.’ - Choice
‘Tricia Malley and Ross Gillespie...provide a visual language to complement the dark and complex thoughts of Scotland's most famous sleuth.’ - British Journal Of Photography
‘Atmospherically illustrated with a series of stunning shots, mostly of Edinburgh.’ - Daily Mail (Scotland)
‘No discerning coffee table should be without this visually stunning, intriguing snapshot of a Scottish literary icon.’ - Daily Record
